MakerLodge is organized into two tiers of training.
Tier 1 training covers how to use general making tools - 3D printers, laser cutters, and hand tools. To be eligible for tier 1 training at MakerLodge, students must review the safety rules here and pass our safety quiz. Afterwards, they can sign up for training, which consists of two 2-hour sessions of in-shop practice making a project. After a student successfully completes the project and is assessed on their safe and competent use of machines, they will be credentialed on those machines in the MIT Mobius app. Students with MakerLodge credentials may contact any of our participating shops to request access to their space, or use the Makerlodge machines they have been trained on during scheduled open making hours.
Tier 2 training is now available! If you have been checked off for Tier 1, you can sign up here. Tier 2 will cover more advanced machines and more specific areas of making, and will be split into a multitude of different tracks to accommodate different interests. Tracks include:
- Glassworking (MakerLodge Glass Workers Club)
- Bandsaws and Drill Presses
- Arduino Microcontrollers (Resuming trainings shortly)
- Basic Electronics Skills
- Shopbot Desktop CNC Mill (WIll be released soon)
Students will be able to sign up for training in as many or as few tier 2 tracks as they would like. Tier 2 training is not required to be allowed in MakerLodge or our other participating shops, but only students who have completed the training for a specific tier 2 machine will be allowed to use it in MakerLodge.
